Listener Reviews

From one podcaster to another - a tip of the cap
Recently, I had the pleasure of being a guest on this show, "That's Life, I Swear." Rick made me feel comfortable and prepared, prior to our recording. I highly recommend this podcast. What I love most about Rick's podcast is the audio quality. Rick delivers high-quality audio production. That's not easy, and it's not the case with all podcasts. Between his spoken voice (his delivery) and the audio mastering in post, the result is a sound that is on par with something we might hear on NPR or another public-radio program.Rick is also an experienced and skillful interviewer/host. He asks great questions, listens well and knows how to expand or bridge the conversation, depending on the guest's response.
A Podcast That Feels Real and Engaging
I’ve really enjoyed listening to That's Life, I Swear and the thoughtful conversations Rick brings to every episode. He has a unique ability to take complex, real-world topics and make them feel approachable, human, and genuinely engaging. You can tell he puts real care into both his preparation and his guests—nothing feels rushed or surface-level.

Interview #25 Tracy Pullman: Reinventing Yourself and The Power of Career Networking
Rick is a thoughtful and exceptionally well-prepared host. His research shows, and he asks insightful questions that elevate the conversation. He creates a relaxed, free-flowing environment that feels more like chatting at a local coffee shop than being on a podcast, which makes it easy to open up and share authentically. I truly enjoyed the experience. Thanks, Rick!

A preview of Ken Burns’ latest … November 2025
An excellent preview of Ken Burns’ latest … thank you Rick for giving us a clear take on how Burns tries to present a history of realities rather American legends and heroes.
Rick is an Amazing Interviewer.
Let me start with a joke. How can you tell an extroverted engineer? He looks at the other person's shoes while he talks to them.Rick is a gifted interviewer and he really put me at ease during our conversation about my invention, the Amazonica. ( https://www.thatslifeiswear.com/interview-23-andy-unruh-revolutionizing-music-the-story-of-the-amazonica/) Like many engineers, I am far more comfortable designing things than I am talking about them.Rick is a genuinely warm and authentic person who is deeply interested in other people and all of that comes shining through during his interviews. Rick made me feel very comfortable during the interview process. Rick took what would normally be a pretty dry design and engineering process and was able to turn it into a story that transcended that dry process by exploring the human side of inventing. That many of my friends and relatives who are not technical at all enjoyed listening to the podcast is a testament to Rick's skills as both an interviewer and storyteller.
Blessed to Converse with Rick
It was my honor to have a conversation with Rick. His genuineness, relatability, and preparedness made my 'job' easy. I never felt like I was being interviewed. I felt like I was having coffee with a great friend. He speaks and listens from the heart. He is warm, kind, and sincere and my experience with Rick on the "That's Life, I Swear" podcast was outstanding. There's no surface level fluff, but instead, there's deep, whole-hearted conversation and connection. My episode with Rick is: Interview #20 Pam Sandrock - Embracing Life's Challenges
More Than an Interview - A Genuine Connection
Being a guest on Rick Barron’s podcast was an outstanding experience. Rick has a natural gift for drawing out meaningful stories in a way that feels both conversational and insightful. His thoughtful questions encouraged me to reflect on parts of my journey I don’t often share - and he did so with empathy, humor, and genuine curiosity. What stood out even more was how Rick shared his own relevant stories along the way. Hearing him open up about his background created a sense of connection and trust that made me feel comfortable opening up in return. That authenticity brought a deeper dimension to our conversation.Rick strikes that rare balance between listening deeply and adding just the right prompts to bring out the heart of the story. I came away from our recording not only grateful for the opportunity, but also impressed by the craft he puts into creating episodes that inspire, challenge, and uplift. I’d recommend *That’s Life, I Swear* to anyone who appreciates honest dialogue and authentic storytelling.
Interview #17 Lauren Van Duyn - So much fun!
Rick - thanks for having me join your show! It was such a delight to meet you and speak with you about my perspective around parenting in the pandemic, and starting a podcast! I really appreciate the way you took the time to truly understand my messaging, and the goals of my podcast beforehand and used that insight to craft engaging questions. This allowed me to easily share my own story, as well as reflect on insights/stories from my guests so far. It was really lovely to speak with you, and I can't wait to listen to more of your content!
Interview #16 Abi King - Breaking free from the chains of Alcohol Addiction
I absolutely loved my conversation with Rick! He was very organised and sent me a huge list of potential questions that he might ask, and stayed in touch regularly during the time leading up to our interview. He has a very calm manner, and I felt very relaxed talking to him. I feel like I could've talked for way longer but we ran out of time! Thanks Rick for asking me to be on your show, I wish you all the very best for your future episodes x
Incredible host and interviewer
I was a guest for Interview #15 - Kendall Breitman- From Newsroom to Podcast Studio and Rick not only asked incredible questions, but he as a host made me feel so comfortable to talk and share my story. I have been on many podcasts, but Rick's questions, thoughtful research, and approach to his interviews made this my favorite interview I've ever been a part of. He gave me the confidence to open up, he listened, and I was just so impressed by him and his podcast. If you are going to be a guest, or a listener, Rick's podcast is among the best :)
Interview #13 Suzanne Junered – The Art of Storytelling
I love the variety of topics Rick covers in his podcast conversations and appreciated his interest in the writing life! Having this conversation with Rick felt just like that--a conversation. Although he was officially interviewing me, Rick had insightful points to add to our chat. We're all storytellers, and Rick's doing a beautiful job through his podcast. I look forward to seeing what he publishes next.

Inspiring Experience
Being a guest on ā€œThat’s Life, I Swearā€ was such a rewarding experience! Rick was incredibly thoughtful and intentional with the planning process, which made me feel supported and prepared every step of the way. I truly appreciated the space he created for me to share my passion for being a time advocate, self-directed education and living life on our own terms. Deep Dive
I was honored to be a guest on That’s Life, I Swear. I was truly impressed by the homework and prep Rick did, which showed in our episode. I really enjoyed our conversation and appreciated your true interest in learning something that was new to you.
Food for Thought
Rick has a wonderful way with words. I was privileged to be interviewed by him, which felt much more like 2 friends enjoying a good catch up. But in listening to his other episodes, I really appreciate the perspective and attention to detail which make me more thoughtful on his chosen subjects. In a world where media spoon feeds their rhetoric to us; it is wonderful to listen to someone who opens the door to critical thinking and self reflection.
Unique and Engaging Interview
"Rick’s podcast "That's Life, I Swear" is incredibly insightful. His unique style in covering a variety of topics keeps listeners engaged and eager to learn more. I was delighted when Rick asked if he could interview me on the topic of parenting a child with autism. I was impressed by how much preparation he did prior to our interview. He provided questions ahead of time, and we met a couple of times to discuss the interview. The actual interview was very relaxed and felt like a natural conversation. I am very grateful to Rick for providing me with a platform to raise awareness about what it’s like to parent a child with autism."
Interview #2: Judy Barron - Genealogy Isn't Just About Names and Dates
I see Rick pretty much every day, working at finding, researching and building out great podcast stories and interviews. But, interviewing me was a pleasant surprise. His approach for the interview was exceptionally easy, fun and enjoyable to do. Starting with reviewing the potential questions I'd be asked, to the pre interview meeting Rick put me at ease and he stressed "I was telling my story" and not him. If you're asked to be interviewed for his podcast, jump on it and say YES. You'll have a great time telling your story to 1000's of people who listen to That's Life I Swear.
